73 degreesYes, I do go on about how nice the weather is here in the Okanagan.

Well, look left. Yes, it’s 73 degrees fahrenheit (23 degrees Celcius) on the deck this afternoon and it’s an absolutely beautiful day.

Tulips are coming upWe’ve been outside working on the yard (again) and even took a little break to soak up the rays from the lounge chairs. Even the tulips are coming up. This is happening in Penticton, while Toronto gets pummeled this afternoon by yet another 40 – 50 cm dump of snow.

So, are ya tired of it yet?

Ready to move to the Okanagan? :-)

Il Paesano: The Perfect Pizza in Toronto

Il Paesano (6) One of the things I’ve missed most since moving away from Toronto is truly tasty pizza. (In my not-so-humble-opinion, they just don’t DO pizza here in the west… or bread).

Our favorite pizzeria is Il Paesano Pizzeria which is located in a tiny strip mall at 396 Brownsline in Toronto’s west end. The building’s exterior gives no hint of the wonderful treats within, yet Il Paesano has been in business since 1959.

Folks like Wayne Gretzy and Kurt Browning have enjoyed their fantastic zaaaas and left their marks upon the walls.

Their pies have thin crust New York style crust and just the right amount of delicious tomato sauce.

My mouth waters just to think about it. Sadly, I’ll have to wait until May to enjoy yet another. In the meantime, I’ll just look at the picture below and savour the recollection.

Rock Wall on Etobicoke CreekEd and I are in Toronto for the Christmas holidays, and today we ventured out for a walk south along Etobicoke Creek, through Marie Curtis Park, east along Lake Promenade Drive, north up 32nd street to Horner, then back up Westmead to where we parked the rental car.

Our walk was about 9 kilometers in all, and it would have perfect had Ed been wearing boots that weren’t so darned dangerous on the slippery sections.

Air Canada Connections in Toronto

Starting January 30, 2007 all Air Canada flights will check-in at Toronto Pearson International Airport, Terminal 1. In the past passengers connecting to the USA or other international destinations had to leave Terminal 1 and connect through Terminal 2.

Some Air Canada Jazz flights to the USA, will be out of East Satellite Terminal.

Connecting through Pearson will be a lot easier.

The Toronto Islands Are A Treasure

The Toronto Islands are a treasure that most visitors to the city overlook. On our Christmas visit to the city Ros and I paid the Islands a visit. The park does attract over a million visitors annually.

Access to the Islands is by ferry. The docks are located at the foot of Bay Street behind the Westin Hotel. In the winter a smaller ferry runs to Wards Island and serves the needs of the island residents. In summer there are three ferry docks on the islands served by much larger ferries. On the ride over to the island you get unique views of the city.

Wards and Algonquin Islands have residential communities on them. Center Island is the main visitor destination.

It’s great to be downtown in the largest city in Canada and in minutes be transported to a peaceful country like setting with fantastic views of the city.

The islands cover an area of 569 acres. We took a walk through the neighborhoods and along the boardwalk to Center Island. In the summer there are many attractions here. The Centerville amusement park and petting zoo are fun for the kids. Picnic facilities with BBQ are plentiful.

Playing fields for most team sports are available.

If you get tried of walking there are bikes and boats available for rental.

When the busy pace in the city gets to you the islands offer a great nearby getaway to relax. Enjoy a side of Toronto many miss out on.
