Try Harder Avis

SUVFor our recent trip to San Fransisco we booked a rental vehicle online through Avis and specified that we wanted an SUV. We arranged to pick the vehicle up at the Fishermans Wharf Avis location, just a short walk from the Sheraton, where we were staying.

When we arrived at the AVIS depot, there was only one person behind the counter and the lineup was building. When we were finally served, we were told that an SUV was not available and were offered a mini van instead.

Ros insisted… We ordered an SUV and that’s what we wanted. So, the clerk made some phone calls (appearing none to pleased) and finally located an SUV in the area.

About 15 minutes later it arrived. The clerk gave us directions to San Jose and so we were off.

BUT WAIT!

Ros noticed a light indicating that the vehicle was due for service.

Oh well… forget it… let’s see what happens and get going. (Hint: Don’t buy a used car that was used for rentals.)

Fortunately, the vehicle preformed well for the three days we had it.

Upon returning the SUV to the San Fransisco Airport location we were told we had to go to the counter even though the credit card was being billed for the rental. At the counter the clerk took my paper work and presented me with a receipt, no signature – no questions. So AVIS, why was the trip to the counter necessary?

AVIS – you really should try harder!

P.S. Next time we’ll stick to the tried and true and book through Budget.com
