Great Cats World Park

Enroute from Crater Lake to Crescent City, we stopped at Great Cats World Park in Cave Junction and enjoyed a personal guided tour of the park, while staff and trainers interacted with large and small cats including:

Great Cats World Park

  • African Lions
  • Siberian Tigers
  • Bengal Tigers
  • White Tiger
  • Black Leopards
  • Snow Leopards
  • Amur Leopards
  • Jaguars
  • North American Cougars
  • African Serval
  • African Caracal
  • South American Ocelots
  • Yukon Lynx
  • Fishing Cat
  • African Wildcats
  • Geoffroy’s Cat

These animals have been featured in major motion pictures, such as “Vertical Limit”, and various TV shows and commercials, such as “The Crocodile Hunter”, “The Late Show with David Letterman”, “The Late, Late Show with Conan O’Brien”, “Newton’s Apple” and the “Today Show”.

I was especially enchanted with Sabah the Fishing Cat! Watching a cat catch fish in a pond is not something one sees everyday.

A sweltering hot day, we also appreciated the shade cloth and misters around the exhibits.

Wow, Ros! I lived in southern Oregon for 12 years … right on the Rogue River, and this is the first I’d heard about the Cat Park.

Yes, many trips through Grants Pass, Cave Junction, and on to Brookings. Especially for the Azalea Festival in mid-spring.

My great aunt had a motel in Crescent City (reported to have an exotic history. Well, what the hey, loggers get lonely, too) right on the ocean. My ol’ Grandad and I found a Japanese glass fish net ball right out from the motel. We were on our way to the 1939 San Francisco World’s Fair at the time.

    Thanks again for the report.

    Hi Gene,

    Thanks for stopping by!

It’s good to have family with ‘exotic history’. I hope to be one of those people someday. :-)

And wow! The 1939 world’s fair! How cool is that!!! Even cooler that you can remember that far back,.. I can’t remember last week. :-)

And yes… although I wasn’t keen to see cats in cages, I was REALLY glad that we went. The gentleman who runs the place is SO into what he does… the tour keeps going around and around and people join in the midst. It was VERY cool.

    Cheers,
    Ros
