Sexy Laundry Playing at Penticton’s Cannery

Ed and I are always SOOOOO impressed by the theatrical productions put on here in Penticton and Michele Riml’s ‘Sexy Laundry’ was no exception.
Starring Eric Hanston (Henry) and Jeanne Wnuk (Alice) and directed by Ed Schneider, Sexy Laundry had us roaring with laughter almost throughout.
Sexy Laundry is a one act, 90-minute play set in an upscale hotel room that Alice has rented for the weekend in hopes of reconnecting with her husband. She’s brought a well-worn copy of Sex for Dummies with her and tries to encourage Henry to participate in some of the exercises recommended in the book.
Henry, who doesn’t see a problem with their relationship, is reluctant to participate however and carps about the hotel’s shortcomings instead.
The results are absolutely hilarious. Henry’s dance scene had me laughing so hard there were tears rolling down my face.
If you happen to be in Penticton, this play is a must-see. Sexy Laundry plays at The Cannery Stage on Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. until Aug. 2nd, 2008. Tickets for this Many Hats Theatre Company production are available at the Can Coffee Company, 1475 Fairview Road, Penticton or can be reserved by phone at 250-493-3044 (no credit card required.)
Please note that Sexy Laundry contains adult language and deals with mature themes.

Grease Plays in Summerland
Posted March 2, 2008 by Rosalind Gardner · Filed Under Entertainment
Eighty students from grades 9 through 12 appeared in Summerland Secondary School’s performance of the 1970’s Broadway Classic, Grease, which ran Feb. 23, Feb. 26 to 29 and March 1st.
We went to see Danny, Sandra D. Rizzo, Kenickie and all the other student actors pour their hearts and souls into a fantastic performance on closing night, after which there were rousing accolades given to and by their drama teacher, Heather Ayris.
Ms. Ayris informed the audience that the show had been run and choreographed entirely by the students and that they had worked on the production everyday since September as well as Saturdays.
Well, the students’ efforts certainly paid off in a quality performance, hampered only by the theatre’s sound system. It might therefore be nice if the school rewarded them in return with new speakers for the theatre.
New system or not - we can’t wait to see which production they’ll choose next year.
Dirty Dancing at the Royal Alex

It had to be done… I had to see Dirty Dancing on stage while we were here in Toronto over the Christmas holidays.
Although I’d heard a couple of reviews from friends that were less than enthusiastic and found the opening song just a touch off-key, overall I thought the production was fabulous.
The flow was true to the original movie, the set was amazing and I loved the costumes. After the first song, the music and dancing were perfect… just as you’d expect.
Although the Royal Alexandra Theatre (more commonly refered to as the ‘Royal Alex’) in Toronto feels ‘tight’ with less room between the seats, we love it for the fact that there are no bad seats in this theatre. The views from the balconies are just as good as they are from the orchestra. (See the pic above left… we were seated in the first balcony in the middle of the theatre).
If you haven’t seen the movie, Dirty Dancing is a 1987 romance written by Eleanor Bergstein, featuring Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Cynthia Rhodes, and Jerry Orbach. The story details a teenage girl’s passage into womanhood, through a summer relationship with a dance instructor.
Dirty Dancing was a massive hit and has earned $US300 million worldwide. It was also the first film to sell over one million copies on video. Two multi-platinum albums and multiple singles which won the Golden Globe and Academy Award, as well as a Grammy Award were generated by the movie.
In 2004, the movie was translated into a stage musical produced by Jacobsen Entertainment at a cost of $6.5 million. The stage version was also written by Eleanor Bergstein to have the same songs as the film, plus a few extra scenes. The stage version of Dirty Dancing first opened in Sydney, Australia, in November 2005.
Dirty Dancing is now running in cities such as Toronto until August 2008 and Chicago until January 2009. You can source Dirty Dancing tickets online through TicketsNow. And if you haven’t seen the movie yet, click here to order Dirty Dancing from Netflix

Oklahoma in Alberta

Our plan was to drive from Edmonton to near the entrance to Glacier National Park in Montana. The closest place that accommodations could be found was the town of Cardston, Alberta. We planned to spend the night and get an early start to the park.
While walking around town we noticed that the local theater group was preforming Rogers and Bernstein’s Oklahoma that evening. Tickets were still available so we decided to take in the show.
The local theater group put on a wonderful performance. It was a great way to spend an evening. You never know what you will find.

Le Reve at Wynn Las Vegas!
Posted January 19, 2007 by Rosalind Gardner · Filed Under Entertainment
I’m off to the Affiliate Summit in Las Vegas tomorrow and can hardly wait as I plan to see Le Reve at the Wynn while I’m there.
Here’s the description of the show from the Wynn’s site “LE RÊVE presented exclusively at Wynn Las Vegas, offers breathtaking performances in an intimate aqua theater in-the-round. The show features aerial acrobatics, provocative choreography and artistic athleticism“.
“The cast of 85 captures the imagination with their outrageous antics and daring feats of strength and agility. Live music and elaborate special effects immerse the audience into a world of fantasy, adventure and intrigue“.
As I’m a huge Cirque du Soleil fan, LE RÊVE should be right up my alley.
Going to Vegas? You too can see Le Reve at Wynn Las Vegas!
