About Us

Welcome to Roamsters.com the travel blog by a couple of folks with serious Wanderlust. We’ve driven, flown, railed, cruised, bussed, walked, hiked and occasionally even run to places in North and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe since we became friends in 1977.

We share our delights in this Beautiful Planet as well as share our tips to help you plan your trips, get the best travel deals, and find terrific travel gear.

Here some basic tidbits about us…

Rosalind Gardner

It helps to have immigrant parents who left their entire families behind in Europe. For me, that scenario entailed lots of travelling from an early age.

Although I don’t recall the trip, I was 18 months old in 1961 when my Mom and I went to Holland to introduce me to the family… and I’ve been on the go ever since.

For the longest time, I actually considered adopting “Wanderlust” as a middle name, because my family hadn’t given me one. They figured that with the surname of Ogrodowczyk, my name was long enough already. Ogrodowczyk is Polish for ‘gardener’. I adopted the shortened English version in 2000.

I retired at the ripe old age of 40 after spending 20 years in Canada’s aviation industry… the last 10 as an air traffic controller. (Gee, go figure that I became an air traffic controller!)

After leaving the workaday world, I re-invented myself as an author, speaker and consultant in the Internet marketing industry. I learned about affiliate marketing, wrote a book, started speaking at conferences and now write a column for Revenue magazine. Not only does it keep me in travel funds, it keeps me travelling. It’s all very, very good!

Unlike Ros, my childhood travels were restricted to wherever my bicycle would take me. So, as an adult, I decided to make up for lost time…

I have been a history buff ever since I can remember and geology has also been a fascination.

For me, standing on the spot where events shaped the way the world changed is thrilling. When I was in Montana at the Little Big Horn I remember wondering “Custer. what were you thinking”.

Similarly, looking at a mountain range or desert and realizing the forces that created them inspirers awe.

In both instances being there makes it real for me.

Maybe someday with the way technology is going we may be able to do virtual travel but until then I will roam the planet and hopefully someday have the opportunity to go extraterrestrial.

Today I’m a 56 year old retiree living in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia Canada. I retired May 15th 2006 after 32 years with a large HVAC company in Toronto as a Service Tech to start and for the last dozen years as a Technical Trainer for the organization.

I sold my house and on May 31st. The movers packed up my stuff and I got in my new car with Ros, my best friend. We pointed the car West and started off to B.C., where Ros lives.

That’s a picture of us at Pebble Beach golf course in Carmel, California in September 2006.
