Travel Points: Use ‘Em or Lose Them
Posted February 8, 2007 by Ed Szajniak · Filed Under News, Points & Rewards
In an effort to cut costs many airlines are changing their policies regarding frequent flier miles. We are members of Air Canada’s program called Aeroplan . The airline changed there policies this January, read the details in our post.
Members whose account are inactive for a defined period will lose their points. Some airlines will let you buy back your points for a fee. Seems ridiculous buying back what you already own.
You can keep your account active by making a transaction at stores that are affiliated with the program.
For details on the terms of different carriers see this article in USA Today

Vietnamese Visa: Speedy Service!
Posted February 8, 2007 by Ed Szajniak · Filed Under Adventures, News
We will be visiting Vietnam on our up coming trip to Asia. Canadians require a visa, so we downloaded the visa application forms from the Vietnamese Embassy website, however prior to sending them in, we had to call the Embassy to get the cost to process our visa applications. Seems the price is subject to change.
On Monday morning I sent the applications along with our passports to Ottawa by FedEx. The Embassy website states that they require five (5) working days to process a visa.
However, the following Friday morning we were surprised to find our passports were back with the visas attached.
Very speedy service indeed.

No Frills New York Pod Hotel
Posted February 5, 2007 by Ed Szajniak · Filed Under Hotels, Travel Deals
If you are planning a trip to New York you are aware that hotels are very expensive. There is a new hotel that has been open for a month called the Pod. This is a no frills hotel that offers rooms in the $100.00 a night area, some with shared bathrooms.
It has no restaurants but that isn’t a problem as it is located on 51st Street just a few blocks from the Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Center and Fifth Avenue shopping.
So if you are in New York to check out the sites or to shop why not spend you money on those activities rather than on a hotel room.
Travelers reviews on Expedia give the Pod a 4 out of 5 rating.
Read the article in USA Today for more information.
