We’re T@Bbing Now
Well, we've joined the RV set. Shown above is a picture of our new T@B trailer on the day we picked it up - 5 minutes down the road from the dealership. I'd never pulled a trailer, but that didn't matter apparently - as Ed refused to drive out of the RV dealer's lot. OK, fine. "Gotta do this at some point, it might as well be now", thinks I and honest to goodly, I could hardly feel the T@B behind us. As to why to picture was shot only 5 minutes down the road --- we stopped for lunch in Westbank ...
A Visit to the Tillamook Air Museum
One of the major reasons for our recent trip out to the Oregon Coast was to visit the Tillamook Air Museum, which located just south of Tillamook, Oregon at the Tillamook Airport. Described as "one of the country's top private World War II aircraft collections", the museum is a former military blimp hangar, and is the largest clear-span wooden structure in the world. It's massive! Built by the US Navy in 1942 during World War II the building stands 192 feet tall, is 1,072 feet long and 296 feet wide, and has a total area of over 6 acres. The hangar ...
Dry Falls and the MegaFlood
Dry Falls is one of the greatest geological wonders in North America -- a former waterfall that now stands as a dry cliff 400 feet high and 3.5 miles wide. When active, this waterfall was ten times larger than Niagara Falls. The falls were created following the catastrophic collapse of an enormous ice-dam holding back the waters of what has been named "Glacier Lake Missoula". Water covering three thousand square miles of northwest Montana was blocked behind a glacial dam until the rising lake penetrated, lifted and then blew out the ice dam.
Security Tight at Canada Day Eve Block Party
For the 3rd year running we held a block party to celebrate Canada's birthday and our incredible good fortune at being able to reside in the country's best town and province - Penticton, British Columbia. OK, so maybe we're just a little biased, but hey, the word 'Penticton', derived from a word in the Okanagan language, means "a place to stay forever" and such claims aren't made lightly. Personally, I refer to it as 'Perfection, British Columbia'. Mountains, big lakes and hot dry weather that give us cherries and wine as well as opportunities for hiking, biking and boating ...
A Few Hours in Washington, D.C.
Once again I had the privilege and pleasure of attending Yanik Silver's Underground Seminar in Washington, D.C. and how I wish MORE of our industry conferences were held here. What an awesome city!
John Day Fossil Beds National Monument
During our trip planning, I happened to spot John Day Fossil Beds National Monument on the map, and after just a minute or two of poking around the Internet to see pictures of the place, we both knew that it was a 'must-visit' destination. The Monument consists of three separate chunks of land including the Sheep Rock, Painted Hills, and Clarno Units. Coming from the north and east, our first stop was the Sheep Rock unit where the visitor center is located. The Thomas Condon Paleontology Center features exhibits, interpretive programs, and audiovisual presentations on fossils, geology, and the processes ...
